Semi-Automatic & Universal OD Grinding
Semi-automatic OD (Outside Diameter) grinding is a process where the external surface of a cylindrical workpiece is ground to precise dimensions and surface finish, using a machine that automates some—but not all—process steps. In semi-automatic OD grinding, the machine performs grinding operations automatically, but an operator is still required to set up the part, load and unload the workpiece, and sometimes initiate or monitor certain functions.

Semi-Automatic & Universal OD Grinding: Flexibility for Custom Low and Moderate Production
At CPG, our semi-automatic OD grinding services can grind parts up to 10” in diameter and 72” in length.
Our six versatile machines allow for flexible setups, making them ideal for both small, custom orders and high-production runs.
Your parts will meet the necessary tolerances and finish quality across both prototype and production work.
These grinders are ideal for low-volume, high-complexity runs and for industries that need custom grinding solutions on a variety of part sizes. Semi-automatic OD grinding is widely used in industries where moderate production volumes and high precision are required, such as:
Aerospace
Construction equipment
Medical device manufacturing

Part type: Shaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Agriculture, Building/Construction Equipment, Military/Defense Equipment, Oil & Gas Services
Applications: Shafts used in any industry with a moving part

Part type: Eccentric Shaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Oil & Gas Services
Applications: Converts rotary to reciprocating motion. Used in mechanisms where a back-and-forth movement is required such as pumps.

Part type: Crankshaft End Journal – OD Grinding
Industries: Recreational Vehicle/Power Sports
Applications: Converts rotary to reciprocating motion. Used in mechanisms where a back-and-forth movement is required such as pumps.

Part type: Crankshaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Agriculture
Applications: Converts rotary to reciprocating motion. Used in mechanisms where a back-and-forth movement is required such as pumps.

Part type: Crankshaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Military/Defense Equipment
Applications: Converts rotary to reciprocating motion. Used in mechanisms where a back-and-forth movement is required such as pumps.

Part type: Pump Shaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Recreational Vehicle/Power Sports
Applications: Pump shafts connect the motor (or other drive source) to the impeller, enabling the transfer of torque that causes the impeller to rotate and move fluid through the pump.

Part type: Crankshaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Auto/Transportation
Applications: Converts rotary to reciprocating motion. Used in mechanisms where a back-and-forth movement is required such as pumps.

Part type: Yoke Flange – OD Grinding
Industries: Agriculture, Military/Defense Equipment, Building/Construction Equipment, Power Transmission
Applications: Flange yokes join two shafts together, allowing them to rotate as a single unit and efficiently transfer power.

Part type: End Yoke-OD Grinding
Industries: Agriculture, Military/Defense Equipment, Building/Construction Equipment, Auto/Transportation, Power Transmission
Applications: End yokes are connectors at the ends of the driveshaft that facilitate torque transfer between the driveshaft and other drivetrain components.

Part type: Shaft – OD Grinding
Industries: Agriculture, Building/Construction Equipment, Military/Defense Equipment, Recreational Vehicle/Power Sports
Applications: Shafts used in any industry with a moving part

Part type: Boom Roller – OD Grinding and ID Grinding
Industries: Building/Construction Equipment
Applications: Boom trucks are versatile, truck-mounted cranes used for lifting and transporting materials, particularly in construction and utility applications.

Part type:“No lead grinding finishes” – OD Grinding
Industries: Agriculture, Building/Construction Equipment, Military/Defense Equipment, Industrial Machinery, Power Transmission
Applications: “No lead grinding finishes” refers to a grinding process that aims to produce a surface free from the “lead” effect, which is a rotation-dependent pumping effect caused by certain surface structures.
