What is CNC OD Grinding?

CNC OD grinding is a precision grinding process that uses a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) system to grind the outside diameter (OD) of a cylindrical workpiece. This means a computer precisely controls the movement and actions of a grinding wheel to achieve high accuracy and surface quality on the outer surface of a cylindrical part.

CNC OD grinding equipment is used for accuracy on difficult parts such as those requiring contour grinding, angles, tapers, spheres, radii, and shutoffs. This method also allows for high-precision machining of diameters and profiles, often required for parts with multiple diameters or complex geometries, such as drivetrain components, output shafts, armature shafts, and crankshafts.
