Fluid power lives and dies on clearance and finish. A spool that binds is a warranty claim. A bore that will not hold a seal is a leak in the field, usually at the least convenient moment. The tolerances that prevent both are grinding and honing tolerances, not turning tolerances, and the gap between the two is where most of this work comes to us.

Why Our Equipment Fits

Spool-to-bore clearance work needs both halves held in the tenths, and we run both halves. Bores hone from 0.087 to 2.0 inch diameter to 0.0002 inch and 8 Ra, up to 6.6 inches long. ID grinding covers 6 inch diameter by 8 inch length to the same tolerance. Spools, rods, and shaft stock run centerless from 0.125 to 4 inch at 0.0001 inch with roundness under 0.0001 inch, which is the number that decides whether a seal survives its duty cycle.

With ten centerless machines and ten honing machines, this is production capacity rather than a single cell you have to wait behind.

Materials

Hardened and chrome-plated rod, tool steel, 300 series and 17-4 PH stainless, powder metal, and engineering plastics. For high-temperature or corrosive service we grind Inconel 625 and 718, Hastelloy, Monel, and Incoloy as regular production work, quoted at the cycle times and wheel cost they actually carry.
