Precision Grinding for Marine and Rigging Hardware
Saltwater and load. Those two facts drive every decision on a marine part. Stainless is usually the answer to the first, and stainless does not grind like carbon steel. Surface finish is a corrosion variable here and not only a bearing variable, because a rougher surface holds more of exactly what you do not want it holding. Hardware that spends its life outdoors under tension is unforgiving of a part that was finished to a number somebody rounded up.
Grinding for Marine and Rigging Hardware
Parts We Grind for This Market
- Sheave pins, axles, and bushings
- Winch and windlass shafts
- Bearing and race surfaces
- Shoulder bolts and threaded hardware
- Rope access, fall protection, and rescue hardware
Why Our Equipment Fits
Finishes to 8 Ra across OD, ID, centerless, and honing. Pins and shafts run centerless from 0.125 to 4 inch at 0.0001 inch with roundness under 0.0001 inch, and infeed plunge handles shouldered parts that thru-feed cannot. Bushing bores hone to 0.0002 inch. CNC OD covers profile work, spheres, angles, and radii, to 6 inch diameter by 36 inch length.
Materials
300 series stainless, 17-4 PH and 15-5 PH, titanium, aluminum bronze, and hardened steel. Monel is the traditional answer for shafting and rigging in seawater and we grind it routinely, along with Inconel and Hastelloy where the environment is worse than usual. We quote these as what they are rather than as steel with a surcharge added after the fact.
